A Little Help From My Friends

Gallery 39’s inaugural exhibition and gallery opening – May 25 – June 28th

Winnipeg’s newest art gallery, Gallery 39, will open on May 25th with a show called ‘A Little Help From My Friends’. It will feature the art of friends, family, and acquaintances of Lizzy B’s and Gallery 39 owner, Barbara Best.

An opening reception will be held on May 25th from 6-9pm at Gallery 39, 39 St. Anne’s Road.

About Gallery 39:

The decision to turn this space into a gallery was a recent one, but was a long time coming. As a framer I spend a lot of time with art of many kinds. It is common for frame shops to have galleries, or for galleries to have frame shops, so it is something I have been considering for some time. Recently I started taking in hand crafted items from local artisans to sell on consignment in the shop. When I put the call out for items to take I got a lot of inquires from artists asking if I took paintings and other art that hangs on walls. I decided the answer should be ‘yes’.

Gallery 39 is a division of Lizzy B’s and as such will share the same open hours (Tuesday to Saturday 10am – 4pm, except for Wednesdays when we’re open until 7pm. We’re closed Sundays and Mondays). We plan to do regular shows with a theme, make the gallery available for individual artists’ shows, and also have periods of time in between shows where what we feature will vary.

It is not a huge space. As such, we have to get creative with the way things are hung. Pieces will not be in a wide space with nothing above and below… they will have to get cozy with each other. We will always do our best to hang things in such a way that all the art is featured and allowed to shine.
